I’ve said many times, I feel that video game violence is a good thing. Its better than anger management, which would have you hold in hostile emotions, which need to come out.
So playing a violent game releases the anger, and no real harm is done. However, sometimes blowing people away with a machie gun just isn’t enough.
It’s just so impersonal. So, if you have anger that needs the personal touch of fists and feet. There is a new game that fits this criteria.
THQ presents Pride FC: Fighting Championships. Take the WWE, mix a dash of UFC, and a scoop of K1 and you have Pride FC.
Pride is THQ’s newest entry into the tough man contest genre. Back in the PSone days, you might remember K1: The Arena Fighters. Or you might not.
It wasn’t a blockbuster title, however, it was follwed by two sequels not produced by THQ.
K1 was a tough man contest game which featured fighters from around the world who compete using varied fighting styles.
Basically the same concept for Pride FC. In fact, I believe even a few of the same fighters on in Pride that were in K1.
So, Pride FC is K1 for the PlayStation 2 So, if you’re a K1 fan, I would strongly suggest turning off that old copy of K1 Grand Prix and go get yourself some Pride.
Graphically Pride FC is pretty stylin’. The fighters are quite life like. These graphics are light years ahead of anything K1 ever produced.
Not fair, you say comparing PSone to PS2? Okay, what about control? Does the generation dictate that? I don’t think so.
The K1 games always had tough and frustrating controls. Not so with Pride. Every push of the button is a punch in the face, or a kick in the arse. Even pinning is simple.
Pride features mutiple ways to play. Single or multi, Career, single match, survival, and even create a fighter.
I checked this out. It’s pretty extensive. Lots of different choices here. Only complaint is that the choices aren’t that different from each other.
A lot of the faces look similar with minor changes. Actually two complaints. There are no woman either.
I know this is not a sport that attracts women competitors, but hey this is fantasy. I’m not suggesting they have a mud code (wink, wink) but just equal opportunity.
After all is punched and kicked, I like this game. I’ve always had a weird fondness for the K1 games on PSone.
I suspect the same is true for this one. Is it that I like to see two men beat the living snot out of each other?
Or just two almost naked men, straddling each other? No, it’s the fantasy of the violence. Its being able to do something you can’t do in real life. It’s that anger management I mentioned.
Here’s an Idea for the ad campaign. Pride FC, because a bullet is so impersonal.
